Yunnan in the local language has the meaning towards Southern Clouds. Yunnan is a province of China having Kunming as its capital. It is located in the south western direction of China touching Tibet in the west and Sichuan and Chongqing located in its north side with Guizhou located towards northeast and Guangxi Province lying in its east direction. It also has border towards its east with Burma, Laos and Vietnam.
Yunnan is located in the mountainous terrain having high sea level towards north-west and lower sea level in the south east direction. One can have very close glimpse of the mountain ranges and glaciers present in the region, which are covered with snow through out the year. It has very dense and deep forests, presence of natural lakes, which are non-polluted. Hot springs are also found in the region. Yunan is holding 33% of Chinese ethnic minority population with 50% of the population to be or non-Han descent. Yunnan has 25 ethnic minorities settled in the province.
Yunnan has abundance of natural resources as well as great diversity of plant life in China. There are 2500 species of flora and fauna because of better living conditions for them. Yunnan’s has largest reserves of aluminium, lead, zinc and tin not found anywhere else in China.
